Working with Colored Cork Tackable Wall Products
It’s not hard! Do you have questions about working with our products? Just give us a call at 844-356-6784. We will be happy to try and help.
Cutting: Our cork sheets cut easily with a straight edge and razor knife or they can be cut, routed and drilled with basic tools or CNC for intricate cuts or marquetry.
Laminating: Cork sheets can be adhered to stable substrate panels with coats of yellow glue on the mating surfaces, then clamped, cauled, pressed or vacuum bagged.
Vertical Application: Using the extremely sticky Forbo L910W vertical adhesive with a 1/16″ x 1/16″ trowel can do a wall application quite easily. The adhesive will also work well for horizontal non-shop applications. Setting a working trowel in a pan or bucket of water keeps the glue from setting and will allow a trowel to be used over and over continuously without cleaning.
End Curl: Like natural linoleum, the product has a natural curl on the roll that impacts the last 10-15″ at the panel edge and requires the curl to be broken by re-rolling inside out or by breaking during installation. It is not unusual to see the end pop up and need bracing or weighting to hold down until the adhesive is set.
Placement: Horizontal surfaces are similar to any laminate, while vertical applications require extra hands, support strips, broad roller pressing and occasionally some brads to hold while the glue sets.
Cleanup: Typically the cork surface is cleaned with (Forbo) neutral PH cleaner and the adhesive is removed with (Forbo) adhesive remover. Other products work as well but test applications are advised.
Dealing with Large Holes: The surface of the cork requires care to not blemish. Sometimes deep damage requires a filler made of a white glue paste made with the scrapings off the surface.
Deep Scuffs: Often times a gentle rub out with 320 grit might blend out a scuff but often times a blot coat of thinned touch up paint may be required.
